Dickens’ most risqué work for the stage, this one-act comedy features such racy material as extra-marital affairs, flippant jokes about adultery, and even a woman displaying her shapely ankle! Deliberately loud and hammy, Is She His Wife? is a delightful farce of good-natured coincidences, frivolous misunderstandings and distinctly Dickensian characters.
tKAPOW reprises its production of Is She His Wife? as part of Umass Lowell's Dickens in Lowell celebration. To mark the bicentenary of Charles Dickens's birth and to commemorate his historic trip to Lowell in 1842, UMass Lowell and its partners are throwing a seven-month-long party of performances, speakers, family programs, and a landmark exhibition exploring Dickens's life, work, and travels in America.
Funded in part by the New England States Touring Program of the New England Foundation for the Arts, made possible with funding from the National Endowment to the Arts Regional Touring program and the six New England state arts agencies.
