Season 19: ELEMENTAL
“Fiction is an elemental force, which has the power to shape reality in its own image – or images, I should say – because reality, like light, exists not only as a single point or particle, but also as an array of possibilities.” -Ruth Ozeki
As we enter season 19, I propose we narrow Ozeki’s thought to say, “theatre is elemental” theatre “exists not only as a single point or particle, but also as an array of possibilities.” And the possibilities for season 19 are truly vast! Which is why it brings me great joy that our theme for season 19 is elemental. When selecting shows for this season we were not only fascinated by the exploration of the fundamental aspects of the human experience but also the raw and untamed power of nature whose wind fills our sails, fire ignites our passions, earth not only supports us but lifts us up, and water that serves as the lifeblood of the planet and connects all species to each other. We are dedicated to making theatre that not only stirs the souls of our audiences but also fully engages them in a physical storytelling expereince. We want to make work you can feel!
I look forward to seeing you at a show this season,
Matt Cahoon

We that are true lovers run into strange capers.
Shakespeare’s most sweet-natured comedy, where love is love – no matter where it falls. Rosalind is banished from the court of Duke Frederick – but not before she and young Orlando fall for each other. Seeking out her exiled father in the Forest of Arden with her devoted cousin, Celia, Rosalind disguises herself as a young man, Ganymede. In fear of his own life, Orlando also escapes to the forest and soon runs into Ganymede, who pledges to cure his lovesickness. But in order to do so, Orlando has to woo her… or rather, he has to woo ‘him’. All that plus a band of merry forest-dwelling misfits make for a great Shakespearean comedy. Let the games begin…
Running Time: 110 minutes , no intermission.

Let the winds blow.
In this dynamic imagining of Euripides’ rarely-seen final play, playwright Anne Washburn renders an ancient story to return us to a world where a father is challenged to sacrifice his daughter to appease the gods. An angry nation seethes and a great army thirsts for blood, but their battle ships are stuck in Aulis. For General Agamemnon, there’s a way forward to glory: “kill your daughter, Iphigenia.” Only then will the gods be satisfied and ignite the winds. Iphigenia and her mother, Clytemnestra, arrive in Aulis to a plan in motion – sacrifice the child, win the war.
Running Time: 100 minutes, no intermission.

You’re right. I apologize. Let’s not destroy the Republic in one afternoon.
In this hilarious, raucous, all-female “power-play” inspired by Shakespeare‘s Shrew, contestant Katherine has political aspirations to match her beauty pageant ambitions. All she needs to revolutionize the American government is the help of one ultra-conservative senator‘s aide on the cusp of a career breakthrough, and one bleeding-heart liberal blogger who will do anything for her cause. Well, that and a semi-historically-accurate ether trip. Here‘s lookin‘ at you, America.
Running Time: approximately 100 minutes with no intermission.

Things around here are savage things.
Two sisters, their possibly schizophrenic maid, and a dog live out their lives on the bleak English moors, dreaming of love and power. The arrival of a hapless governess and a moor-hen set all four on a strange and dangerous path. A riff on the Brontës, gothic novels, and existential crises, The Moors is a dark comedy about love, desperation, and visibility.
